Wang Lui Mei has her information network, but if you want information about the inside of Celestial Being, the person you need to go to is Feldt Grace.  She and Christina Sierra start Celestial Being’s informal gossip network around when Ptolemaios is preparing to launch the Gundams. Later, Feldt recruits Milena Vashti.

It starts as a sort of workaround for the “no discussing your pasts” rule–obviously, they aren’t going to break it, but just as obviously, if so much as mentioning a certain subject around a member of Celestial Being will send them into a day-long funk, it’s practical to share that sort of important tactical information with the rest of the crew so future incidents can be avoided.  It’s not a foolproof system, but it’s functional.

Later on, as the crew includes more people who weren’t involved with CB from the start, the gossip network becomes a way to fill people in on the things that aren’t really going to show up in the introductory packet.  Even with permission to discuss their pasts, everyone is still fantastically quirky, and sometimes it’s just easier to take the new person aside and explain that, Yes, Setsuna says that sometimes, and no, it doesn’t quite mean what you think it means.  Just go with it.  He’s Gundam.

And, of course, they do sometimes just engage in mundane, just-for-fun gossip, because everyone needs a hobby and their coworkers’ relationships are amusing.

People remember where they were when Aeolia Schenberg’s message aired, or when they first heard about it–not everyone has a TV, obviously, but everyone eventually got word and everyone remembers when.

Fifty years later, Louise and Saji tell the next generation’s kids about standing around that big-screen TV in their school, casually curious and baffled all at once.  Over such a distance of years, it seems to them that the moment had some deep significance, that they somehow knew it would change everything.

But really, at the time, Saji was nervous but sure that this would blow over, that the old man on television was making promises he wouldn’t be able to keep.  And Louise was more worried about the test she had later that week than some grainy footage full of dramatic pronouncements.

Everyone remembers, because, at the time, everyone thought it was weird, a story to tell their children for sure.  And it was.  But it was a different story than they expected.
